Did you know that your Non-Profit Organization could raise money by vacationing? If your organization is designated in a not-for-profit status under IRS section 501(c), you could use a Cruise Vacation to raise money.
This is a program that could benefit everyone. Your family, friends, church members, social clubs, etc. would support your organization and will enjoy a vacation. During the cruise, activities could be planned to bring recognition to your worthy cause, like-minded people can come together in a relaxing environment, and you can just have fun.
Which cruise lines participate in this program? Most of the major cruise lines have a program to benefit Non-Profit Organizations. Most of my cruisers sail on Carnival for group travel and I will focus on Carnival for the purpose of simplicity.
How does this work? As a non-for-profit organization, you provide me with the number of cabins your group would require, destination preferences, and number of days you would like to cruise. I will research the available dates and destinations to ensure that your guests receive the most beneficial package. You promote your cruise and I will handle all of the details, such as reservations, deposits, payments, special requests, answering questions, distributing and collecting documents.
How does the fundraising work? I will use Carnival’s program to explain a possible scenario:
Your group selects a 4 day Cruise to the Bahamas, and sells 25 cabins.
1. Carnival will contribute $10 per cabin / per days sailed
Total Raised: $1,000.00
2. Your group marks up the price of each cabin by $50 ($25 per person)
Total Raised: $1,250.00
3. Every 15 cabins that you sell, your group will earn 1 free cabin (30 paid full fare guests). You could provide the cabin to a special guest speaker, it could be raffled off to earn additional funds, or you could add the cost of the cabin (taxes are not included) to the total of the fundraising. (It’s your decision)
Total Raised: Determined based on how the cabin earned is utilized.
As you can see, the opportunities for fundraising for your nonprofit organization are numerous and beneficial on so many levels. The number of cabins you sell, the length of your cruise and how you use your free cabin(s) determine the amount of funds that your organization will receive.
